How do I read your maps?
Each of our maps is positioned with north at the top, west to the left, east to the right and south at the bottom. To view the area to the right, left, top or bottom of the displayed map, just click on the arrows on the map’s border and the map will reposition to display the adjacent area.

In addition, you can select one of the following buttons:

  • Print: Shows a printable version of the on-screen map.
  • Show Full Map: Shows a full map of your desired location.
  • Zoom In/Out: Shows different levels of detail, including USA, state, multi-county, county, metropolitan area, city, town, street, subdivision and block views.
  • Center Map: Displays the original location you mapped; useful if you have paged to a different area on your mapped location.
  • Identify: This function is really cool! First click on the “identify” symbol, and then select anything on the map: a street, business, attraction or park. Scroll down to see all sorts of useful demographic information about that object.

Below the map, use the “Zoom Level” drop-down menu to select your desired level of detail: USA, state, multi-county, county, metropolitan area, city, town, street, subdivision and block views.

What information do I need to enter to get a map or directions?
To map an area, we only need a city and state. However, to narrow your search and obtain greater detail, you can also enter the following information:

  • Zip code

  • Area code

  • City, state and zip code

  • Street address, city, state

  • Address, city, state, zip code

The map displayed will center based upon the level of detail you enter. For example, if you enter a zip code, MapNation will center your map on the middle portion of that zip code’s area.
Once your map is displayed, you can use the “Zoom Level” drop-down menu to select your desired level of detail: USA, state, multi-county, county, metropolitan area, city, town, street, subdivision and block views.

Why can’t I find the address I entered?
Although our software works hard to recognize the information you’ve input, you might not be able to find your address if there is a spelling error. In most cases, we will match your entry to the closest available data. However, if you are unable to locate your desired address, you might recheck your spelling.

How does MapNation recognize an address?
We locate addresses through a process known as "geo-coding." MapNation uses a wide variety of information from many sources to provide accurate geo-coding, mapping and routing services. We produce some of this information, and some of it comes from third-party sources.

How do you choose routes for driving directions?
When you enter a starting address and destination address, our driving database will find the fastest route between two points. Generally, the fastest route uses highways, roadways and freeways with the highest speed limits. We try to route you to interstate or US highways as quickly as possible, and then keep you on these roads as long as possible. We’ll also provide you with the shortest route to and from these roads.

How do I zoom in and out?
You can use two types of tools to zoom in and out, showing greater detail or a larger overview. At the top of the map, click on the “Zoom In” or “Zoom Out” buttons. Below the map, use the “Zoom Level” drop-down menu. Either option will allow you to customize your view to your desired level of detail: USA, state, multi-county, county, metropolitan area, city, town, street, subdivision and block views.

How do I re-center my map?
It’s easy! Just click on the “Center Map” button at the top of the map, and we will return you to the original location you mapped.

How often is road construction information updated?
We try to update the information about every 6 months. It's a good idea to remap your trip right before you departure.
